CALL FOR APPLICATION – CERN SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAMME 2024

The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) is excited to share that Malaysia has the chance to nominate undergraduate students specializing in Physics, Engineering, Computing Science, and/or Mathematics (at least in their third year), as well as Master’s Degree students for the CERN Summer Student Programme (CSSP) 2024. This transformative program, spanning 8 to 13 weeks between June and August 2024, invites participants to actively engage in the day-to-day operations of research teams conducting experiments at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
While the scientific value of the program is unquestionable, selected students can anticipate more than just ground-breaking research. The CSSP promises an immersive experience in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment, offering a unique opportunity for personal enrichment. This isn’t just an ordinary summer program; it’s a singular chance for participants to establish invaluable connections with peers and scientists from across the globe. Since 2012, the coveted nomination for the CSSP has been an annual affair, welcoming candidates from all corners of public and private higher learning institutions nationwide.
 
Eligibility Conditions
Applicants must be an undergraduate (Bachelor or Masters) in either Physics, Engineering, Computing Science and/or Mathematics and are at least 6 semesters of full-time studies at university level.
 
Applicants remain registered as student during your stay at CERN. If you expect to graduate during European summer 2024 (as of May), you are also eligible to apply.
 
Applicants must not be an employee at CERN (such as Trainee, Technical Student, User, etc).
 
Applicants need to be fluent in English, both speaking and writing. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.

 

Application Process
All applications must be submitted online via link here Google Form (Click here) or scan the QR code in the poster.
 
Applicants are required to submit the following documents in the Google Form;
  • Latest CV
  • A copy of your most recent academic transcript
  • Two compulsory reference letters from your lecturers and/or previous internships. The letters should be dated less than 12 months.
Please submit the documents in the Google form clearly labeled (e.g. “CV”, “Academic transcript”, “Reference letter”) in PDF format to complete your application.
 
Funding
The participation costs (airfare, hostel accommodation, and insurance coverage) for successful applicants will be funded by their respective home institutions.
 
The application deadline is on the 31 January 2024 at 12:00pm. Please ensure that the submissions made are complete to allow a smooth application process.

INTRODUCTION

iCAN is the world-recognized premier event of Canada for inventors which has shown continuous growth and improvement since its first edition in 2016 through 2023. iCAN 2023 last year featured more than 621 inventions from 50 countries around the world.

HISTORY


The past 8 editions of iCAN from 2016~2023 featured participants from 96 countries in all continents of the world including North, Central and South Americas, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania which redefined the event as the true global stage for merging worldwide creativity and innovation in the center of the multicultural mainstream of Toronto, Canada.

Inventors, innovators, students, professors, researchers, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, and anyone with spectacular ideas are eligible to apply to iCAN 2024 and participate in all event programs above and enjoy many benefits of participation.

This year, the 9th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada, iCAN 2024 will be held online and it is our honour to once again invite you to join us and share your ideas, make an impact, and be awarded for your outstanding creativity and innovation that Canada wants to see from you. There will be no physical exhibition or award ceremony in Toronto, Canada. All award winners will officially receive iCAN 2024 Award Package containing their award certificate(s), medal(s) and/or plaque(s) with event souvenirs by international express airmail at the end of the event.
