The Portuguese settlement, or Kampong Portugis, in Malacca is a vibrant community of Portuguese descendants who have maintained their cultural heritage and religious practices since their ancestors intermarrying with locals during the Portuguese empire in the 1500s.

This thesis aims to redefine the settlement’s spatial configuration, architectural style, and design solutions to better serve the community while preserving their unique cultural identity. The design approach focuses on repurposing public spaces, creating interactive areas with sensory elements like visuals, scents, textures, and colors that authentically represent the Portuguese village. The design solutions aim to authentically represent the Portuguese village and enhance community living in Portuguese settlement Malacca.
