The project aims to integrate new architectural programmes into an existing “Far East Shipyard”, which is the oldest operating shipyard in Sibu, Sarawak. The design intention is to rejuvenate the shipbuilding industry which is the pride of Sibu and Sibu is deemed to be the heartland of the shipbuilding industry in Malaysia. This project emphasizes on maintaining the sustainability of the industry to reconnect shipbuilding industry to younger generation and to keep the industry competitive internationally. The new proposed programmes mainly serve for three functions: institutional programmes, public gallery and community space to target different user groups such as existing staffs and labours, vocational trainers and learners, as well as local community as visitors.
