Sekinchan(适耕庄) refers to “a land which suitable for farming”. More than 70% of Chinese are farmers and they rely on the climate and natural environment for farming. Following a set of timeline and festival  – the 24 solar term (二十四节气)  and  the Lunar calendar (农历), the Chinese have developed their farming activities based on these events. Lamentably, the masses in sekinchan had unlearned their own culture and paddy fields are no longer as productive as before.

The aim of the study is to use natural inspiration such as the sun, wind, and rain to innovate a series of passive design strategies, and to minimize the negative impact of the natural environment. Ultimately, the objective of the thesis is to achieve a sustainable development of the paddy industry in Sekinchan.
