More and more elderly are living alone in Malaysia. Majority of their homes may not meet their needs as they age, making them hazardous places to live in. As the elderly age, their physical conditions start to deteriorate, which may cause accidents or injuries, some of which may be fatal. They may not be able to acquire the necessary help during such emergencies. A new housing typology specifically targeting elderly Malaysians should be developed to give the growing aging population a safer, age-friendly and community engaging home. Happiness for elderly people is closely related to how well they transition from working life to retirement life. Thus, the proposal will provide retirement transition programs to address the issue.
