SES is a one day competition. Each team is given 3.5 hours to construct a model. All materials will be provided by the organizer. Each team is required to design and construct a model at the designated venue. The model should be able to resist the artificial earthquakes generated by the shaking table. The model will be tested on the shaking table. The artificial earthquakes will various intensities will be generated. The testing duration for each intensity will be 1 minutes. The challenges of this competition are:

  1. Participants are required to construct a 5-storey building with higher first floor.
  2. Participants are required to construct a 5-storey building only with the materials provided.
  3. The constructed model has to be an economic structure.

On 12th March 2016, there were sixteen teams from 9 different universities, including INTI, Nottingham, UiTM, UM, UNITEN, USM, UCSI, UTM and UTAR. Competition had been intense and there were sweat and pain behind every delicate structure constructed. After an exhausting period, four outstanding teams from UiTM, INTI and UTAR had dominated the competition with their extraordinary structure.

Winner of the competition returned home with RM1200 mobile money credited into Sunway Pals Card followed by RM800 entitled by 1st runner up and RM600 for 2nd runner up. Consolation prize was won by UiTM with RM250 sponsored by SUNWAY Construction.

Overall, it was a meaningful event to gain knowledge that can’t be learned through books. Hard work practiced by hands and sublimed through emotions, it burns into the memory and we’ll be able to remember forever.
