(Formerly known as Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Materials and Manufacturing Engineering)

Engineering. Developing. Solving.
Materials engineers investigate how different materials can be most usefully applied in society. This programme offers education and research for the development and application of new materials. It aims to provide graduates with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of various materials that are vital for Malaysian industry to adopt innovative processes to give local products a competitive edge in the world market. It applies principles of the sciences and engineering to understand the characteristics of materials processes.
Thus, this course contributes to the scientific knowledge and bridges the gap between modern chemistry, physics, and mathematical analysis. The course structures and syllabuses are designed for graduates to be equipped with the essential technical knowledge and skills required by many companies and industries. Latest developments in this discipline include nanotechnology, semiconductors and electronic devices, biomaterials, materials for sustainable energy, photonic materials and devices, polymers, processing, quantum materials and structures, and sustainable materials.
Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering was founded in 2005 with an initial student number of 30. Since then, the department has grown to become one of the largest academic units within the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science. The department comprises of 30 academic staffs with 26 staffs (or 87%) with PhD qualification, including 16 staffs with Professional Engineer (PEng) / Chartered Engineer (CEng) qualification.
We currently offer two undergraduate programmes. Both the programmes have been accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) through the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). Our technical, design and project based curriculum will provide budding engineers with the expertise to solve real-life and complex engineering problems, and prepare them for the global engineering challenges of the 21st Century.
