The Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering (DMBE) at the Faculty of Engineering and Science is a department that focus on developing engineers and researchers in the area of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering.The departmental labs are equipped with state of the art facilities including Mechatronics labs, tissue engineering laboratory, human physiology simulation laboratory, dialysis machine for artificial organ module among others.
Under the Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering, there is a centre known as the Centre of Healthcare Science and Technology which consists of a few sub-research groups build up from members from the Faculty of Engineering and Science and other faculties in UTAR.
DMBE offered two undergraduate programs, one Master in research program and one PhD program.
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechatronics Engineering is designed in response to the rapid growth of interest in mechatronics and precision engineering. It aims to produce graduates who demonstrate capabilities as effective problem solvers and are knowledgeable in applying logical, critical and creative thinking to a range of challenges and problems. They will also display effective communication skills, be able to integrate well into the industry and contribute positively as a professional to the community.
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering science and technology to the solution of problems in medicine and biology. It is also crucial in the design and development of medical equipment, connected health system and IT solution in the Healthcare Industries. Some of the applications include designing and producing artificial prosthesis and organs. This programme aims to produce biomedical engineering graduates in engineering design; biomedical treatment (engineering) and diagnostics; mathematical modelling; computational techniques and programming which include web and database skills and bioformatics; biomedical signal processing; medical imaging; biomechanics and biomaterials and biology for biomedical engineering applications in the clinical and healthcare industries.
The Master in research program and PhD program aim to develop engineering graduates who are keen in continuous learning to develope their research and development skills in the diverse field of Mechatronics or Biomedical Engineering, thereby having better capabilities and prospects in their future career paths.
