The Department of Civil Engineering at Faculty of Engineering was established in the year 2006 with the total of 13 students. Initially, it was called Department of Engineering, which consists of Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Material and Manufacturing programme. As the number of students increased each year, the civil engineering programme was separated from the Department of Engineering and hence, the Department of Civil Engineering was formed. There are total of 24 full time staff in the department, which includes 1 Professors, 3 Associate Professor, 18 Assistant Professors and 2 lecturers. All of our staff is either PhD holders or Masters holders with minimum 5 years of working experience. Many of them are registered with professional bodies such as BEM, IEM, IKM and ICE.
The department is sub-divided into four major sections within the Department namely, Structural and Materials Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Surveying, Water Engineering. Each sub-division is actively engaged in R&D works with financial support from the University like UTARRF, Government such as FRGS and other industrial grants. Many academic members are also pursuing engineering consultancies, which requiring the expertise in multidisciplinary areas such as traffic, geotechnical, structures and materials.
The programme was recognised by the Malaysian Public Services Department (JPA) and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
